Speech on Science and Superstitions

 Speech on Science and  Superstitions👇

Exuberant good morning to one  and all. Honourable  President, Respected Principal,my colleagues and my dear students.Today,we are living in the 21st century,in the modern era which is known as the age of science and technology.Today, science has made a wonderful progress in all the walks of life.Though we are living in this scientific age, still there are so many superstitions in our Indian society.
What is superstition?
Yes, superstition means  a belief in supernatural forces. It means blind belief.
Most of the people in our society became the victims of superstition. Many Indian social reformers, such as Mahatma Fule ,Rajaram  Mohan Roy,Pt .Iswarchandra Vidyasagar and many more tried to eradicate the evil customs and superstitions from the society. The saints like Rastrasant Tukodoji Maharaj and Gadge Maharaj also tried to eliminate the superstitions from the society through their literature , chantings ,Bhajans and pravachans. To kill hens, goats or men before the goddess was practised for gaining the blessings of goddess  ( पशुबळी आणि नरबळी)That  was also a kind of superstition.
Late Narendra Dabholkar and Dr.Kalburgi also tried to eliminate the blind beliefs from our society but unfotunately they were shot.
Friends, have you heard the name of Prof.Shyam Manav. Well,he also tries to remove the superstitions from the society  through his  lectures.Superstitions elimination Committee (अंधश्रद्धा निर्मूलन समिती) is also doing the same job for the society.
People link some events with good or bad omen. But in this scientific era ,there is no room for superstitions.Still there are certain superstitions exist which are irrational.Science has made the impossible things possible with the blink of an eye .Science and Superstitions are poles apart.Yet they are the two sides of the same coin.I would like to share few examples regarding this.e.g 1) To eat curd and sugar before heading out for some important work ,is considered to be good luck .
 But it has scientific reason.
Curd has a cooling effect on the stomach and sugar provides glucose that make you energetic to do your work easier and successful. So, its consumption is linked to good luck.
2) Lemon and green chillies hanging together in the front of the shops.
It is one of the most commonly seen superstitions .Well,it is used to avoid buri nazar .But the scientific reason behind  is that both(lemon and chilly) are rich in vitamins and create certain odour that helps to keep away the insects.
3) To bathe after attending the funeral ceremony.
In the past people died of some sort of infectious diseases or epidemic diseases. So, people used to take bath after coming back from the funeral to prevent themselves from the infection from the dead bodies.Still this practice is going on.
4) Lizard's falling on human is considered bad luck.
But there is nothing like that. The scientific reason behind this is that lizard releases poisonous chemicals from its body in order to protect from enemies. So, bath is taken after it falls on someone.
5) To fast on certain days .
It has also the scientific reason. It is good for our health to fast once in a week.
There are so many examples of superstitions.

  •  To cut the nails at night.
  •  To cut the hairs on the certain day.
  •  To eat curd at night.
  •  If the cat crosses the road when we go,it is considered bad omen*.
  •  Barking of dogs .
  • Cawing of crows .
  • Ghost residing in peepal tree.
  • Throwing coins in the rivers brings good luck .etc
There are so many things in which people believe. Even some educated people also believe in palmistry and science of architecture (vastushastra) while constructing the house. But there is nothing like that .All  the directions are good for construction of house. All the days are good to do any kind of work. All the  colours are good to wear. Some colours are considered lucky colours or to wear black colour during the auspicious occasions is considered bad omen. There is  nothing  like good or bad omen.
Friends, the purpose of giving these examples is that don't be superstitious. Some events occur co-incidentally and so people started believing in  certain things by linking the events to good or bad luck.In marathi ,we say कावळा बसायचा आणि फांदी तुटायची.
We have to remove the superstitions from the society and develop the scientific views in people. We should make the people aware of this  so that our society will progress and ultimately our country will be developed.I hope, you will develop your scientific insight, vision.
I give full stop to my speech.
Thank you.🙏🙏

Speech On 'The World Environment Day.' 5th June.

Speech on the World Environment  Day,5thJune.

Good morning to the excellencies, respected Principal, my colleagues and my dear students,we celebrate various days to commemorate the events and  some honourable personalities. Likewise,we also celebrate the World  Environment Day every year on 5th June .This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972.Two years later means in 1974 the first World Environment Day was held .
Friends, we all are familiar with the word environment. What does environment mean?Yes, environment means the surroundings or conditions in which we ,human beings, animals ,birds and plants live.
The term environment has been derived from a French word *Environia* means to surround. Environment consists of both biotic (human beings, animals ,birds, and plants means living and abiotic means non- living (soil, air, water, solar energy etc ).In short , environment is the surrounding in which we live. The world environment day is celebrated to promote the ways to improve the earth's environment and to solve the environmental issues.
Today, we see the degradation of environment.Who is responsible for this degradation ?Of course, man is responsible for all these adverse changes in the environment.Man is a selfish animal and for the sake of his benefits, he cuts the trees. The cutting of trees affect  the rainfall. The rainfall affects  the availability of underground water as well as land water. It also affects  the growth of crops. Deforestation also affects  the existence of wild animals. Today ,we find that many species of animals and plants are extincted. It also affects  the temperature of the atmosphere. The layer of ozone gas  is  decreasing and  carbon dioxide and other gases are increasing. Concrete jungle is increasing  due to urbanization. Industrialization  and increasing vehicles cause  various sorts of pollutions. The problem like global warming is created.
On seeing these adverse effect on environment, we should be aware of it and make the  others aware of it.As the responsible citizen, it is our duty to protect our earth. If you save earth,we will save our life .Our small acts can be helpful for the protection of Earth. Remember the seven
R s   i.e Refuse, Repair,Reuse,Recycle ,Reject,Renew and Resolve.Water and electricity are the  national wealth. So, it's our duty to save it.We should develop the concept of the 'Rain Water Harvesting' .We should switch off the unwanted electrical gadgets .We should go on foot where is the walkable distance and save fuel. There are  so many things which we can do for the protection of the environment. We should stop cutting of trees. The most important thing we get from trees is oxygen. We can not survive without it.So we should stop the cutting of trees and plant the trees.
At last I would say  'Save our environment, save our planet Earth.
And Save Earth, Save Life.
'Protect our Earth today for our children tomorrow.'
If we  protect our environment,it will be the true celebration of the 'World Environment Day'.
And  don't celebrate  this day  only on 5thJune but it should be celebrated everyday by protecting the environment.
I hope you will do so.
Thank you.

Speech on 'Courtesy Is 'The Light Of Life.'

Courtesy is the light of life .

A  very good morning to one and the  all.
Honourable  chairperson, respected  principal , respected teachers  and my dear friends.Today, our college has organised the elocution competition and topic of the speech is  'Courtesy is the light of life.'
Do you know the  word courtesy? What does it mean? Yes, courtesy means  good manners and polite behaviour. It has a great importance in our daily life.A kind word is very little but it has  great impact in our life and sometimes the kind words such as please, thank you, sorry give us a better reward.Courtesy satisfies ourselves and gives pleasure to others.
Can you tell the origin of this word (courtesy)? The word courtesy comes from old French which described the rules that the Nobels had to follow when they gathered in the  court(Diwan) especially in the presence of king.
Courtesy isn't about knowing when to say 'please' and 'thank you'.These little words can easily be bandied(passed on) without  having much meanings.Kindness  enhances  our personality as well as affects your our character. And the most important thing is the character of a person. It is said that  if you lost your wealth , nothing is lost. If  you lost your health ,something is lost. But if you lost your character, everything is lost. Thus, character plays a very important role in our life. And our behaviour reflects our character.
Why is courtesy the light of life? Because it throws the light on our personality. Our conduct is also one of the parts of our personality. If you are kind and your behaviour is polite, the people have a good impression of you. People like you because of your courtesy. Courtesy is expressed by us through  our words and deeds. We should use these golden words such as  excuse me, please, sorry, thank you, welcome etc. while talking  to others. We  should express our courtesy through our behaviour and conduct .e.g  respect of elders, love of youngers, taking care of neighbours, help the friends, class fellows, parents, sibilings and the poor and needy  whom we come across etc.
Well, a good mannered person is  always acknowledged, appreciated and respected by people . Friends, courtesy is a profitable thing because when you show kind behaviour to others as a result ,others also respect you.The cult(system of religious    beliefs )of courtesy is governed by  the principle, 'give and take'   e.g if someone offers you a cup of tea or coffee, before you accept it you should say 'thank you.'If we respect others, they will also respect us.This is the 'give and take' principle.
Courtesy also makes you happy and contented with life.If you help someone,it gives you joy of satisfaction because that person will be grateful to you forever .He will appreciate you  and  an  appreciation gives you joy. If you have courtesy, you will be happier and contented with life.
Courtesy  costs nothing but pays a huge dividend is an apt maxim.A rude ,ill- mannnered  person is disliked by everyone. On the other hand  polite and good-mannered person is liked ,loved by everyone. The great essayist Francis Bacon says," A man without a sense of courtesy is an animal with human form." So as a human being we should follow the principles of courtesy because courtesy is the light of life.
I hope you will follow  the principles of courtesy.
 Thank you.

Speech on 'Maharashtra Day'

Exuberant good morning to one and all.
Honourable chairperson,my colleagues and my dear students, today we have gathered here to celebrate Maharashtra Day. This day is commemorated the formation of the state of Maharashtra from the division of Bombay on 1st May 1960.
Before the formation of the ustate ofMaharashtra, our state(,the state of Bombay) was then bilingual means Gujarati and Marathi, these two languages were spoken.Mr.Morarji Desai was then the Chief Minister of Bombay state who was against the formation of separate Marathi speaking state means Maharashtra state including Bombay. In the mid of 1950s, Sanyukta
Maharashtra Samiti  was formed and the regional movement known as   Sanyukta Maharashtra Andolan started agitation, demanding the seperate Marathi speaking state  including Bombay city on 6th Feb 1956.Similarly  in1956,the Mahagujrat movement started agitation for the creation of seperate Gujarat speaking  state Gujrat out of Bombay state. The movement of Sanyukta Maharashtra Samiti became aggressive under the leaderships of Shankarrao Deo,Cromade Shripad Dange and so on.All workers, schools, colleges ,banks and offices participated in the strike. There were curfew orders everywhere.During that period,10,000 satyagrahis were arrested and 106 people died in police firing  in various places of Maharashtra.106 people became martyrs  in the movement.
At last the sacrifice of those people didn't go in vain. The president Dr.Rajendra Prasad decided  about  the formation of Maharashtra state .At last our then Prime Minister, Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru declared Maharashtra as a state of Marathi speaking along with Mumbai (Bomhay)at Shivaji Park, Mumbai on 1stMay 1960.In this way Maharashtra state was formed on 1st May 1960 and Mr.Yashvantrao Chavan became the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra. So we celebrate this day as  the Maharashtra Day every year.In the memory of 106 Martyrs, Hutatma Smarak was built at Flora Fountain in Mumbai. I pay my homage to  all the martyrs and give full stop to my speech.
